When he decided to buy out his partner and take full control of Elgin’s The Floor Studio, Brent Cross turned to Gary Addison of Goldwells for advice.

The Floor Studio has been supplying high quality flooring and modern furniture to north and north east Scotland since 2002, and the existing showroom on Southfield Drive was opened in 2009, when the previous premises was demolished to make way for flood protection measures in the city.

Thanks to ongoing contracts to fit flooring for new house builds, The Floor Studio was able to continue in business during the pandemic, with new home owners coming into the showroom by individual appointment. As the houses were empty the team was able to continue working, while following strict social distancing and advanced hygiene procedures.

Brent says the support of Goldwells has been invaluable. “After discussing my plans with Gary at the Goldwells office in Nairn, I bought my partner out with great plans to grow the business, and then the pandemic hit. Gary and the team stepped up right away, relieving our office manager of much of the financial paperwork she did, enabling her to put in place the COVID-19 compliance measures we needed to carry on working. Having Goldwells take over the payroll was a great decision, and I wish we had done it before!

Brent and his team took advantage of slower months to become qualified in resin flooring, making The Floor Studio the only City & Guilds accredited company north of the central belt for this high-tech and increasingly popular flooring option.

“Becoming sole owner of The Floor Studio was a big decision and I was very grateful for Gary’s guidance, which has put us in a great position to move forward now that things are looking up”.
